On a Sunday Afternoon Vol 2 - Dr. Gerre Hancock

FREE SAMPLE TRACK

Dr. Gerre Hancock is featured on the new recording series of the Sunday afternoon organ recitals at Washington National Cathedral. Dr. Hancock improvises in a French Classical style on Victimae Pascháli Laudes with the Men of the Cathedral Choir singing alternate verses. Dr. Hancock additionally improvises a stunning Symphony on submitted themes, the disc also includes works by Bach and Sowerby. Dr. Hancock's improvisations are no less than brilliant and sound as if they were written out on paper, when in fact they were written out in his head seconds before he pushed the keys! One gets an idea of what it must have been like to listen to Mozart or Bach improvise at the organ when you listen to Dr. Hancock. The booklet contains an interview by noted New York Times Assistant Managing Editor, Craig Whitney. This fascinating interview consists of a biography of Dr. Hancock and how he started improvising at the keyboard and how he structures his thoughts while he improvises.
